Hello!!! New post from ya boy!!! I've been working on improving the website! Like moving bidooftv over to here. Rigth now it's really jank due to a lot of technical issues. Before when I used bidooftv I ran the whole program using python and ffmpeg to just like, live encode the files in real time, and output the stream into a pipe which went into ffplay. But now that I've changed the protocol, its using MPGT or something. And that introduces a lot of weird stuff. For example, before I would just break the ffmpeg pipe, and open a new one for ever video due to the fact they were like, differet sizes and framerates. So it was hard to run a continiuous stream of that.

But now I have it changed so it keeps the pipe open, however, it still struggles with buffering when transitioning videos. So what can I do? Well I can try and pre encode the files, before serving them. But that uses a lot of GPU power and tbh I'd like to keep the files as intact and original as possible in case i wanna stream at a higher bitrate later on or something. So I wanted to make a system that would just buffer 5 minutes of video, while serving in real time. Because the gpu can jump ahead and do work that it knows it'll need to do in the future. However, apparently this is like real hard in ffmpeg.

So whats my next idea? Well there's this library called Gstreamer. Its a C library meant for stream multimedia files or stuff over the internet using custome built frameworks inside C. Now I'm not the biggest C user, but I have been experimenting in rust lately! So that's what I think I'm going to do. Rewrite BidoofTV in rust so that for one, memory safty yatta yatta, and two, programming experience, and three, for better more stable streaming for my loyal BidoofTV viewers!!!

Right now I'm just getting the project setup, which has been somewhat of a hassle but I'm managing and getting by! Been trying to avoid using AI as much as I can and sense doing so, it's really helped me fall in love with programming again. The dopamine hit you get from solving something yourself just doesnt hit like AI prompting it to do it for you! Maybe one day I'll mark down all my thoughts I have about AI on here so you can read my opion teehee.

Anyway, not much happened today, I played some pokemon soulsilver and caught a miltank!! Then I went to school for my computer security class, and then on my way home some lady tail gated me and passed me going 70+ in a 45. Which felt crazy. She passed me and the car in front of me too, which Idk how legal that is, but tbh I'm home now so it's okay.
